MRP I
Or Materials Requirement Planning is the first level of material resource planning and focuses exclusively on managing the materials needed for production. It helps calculate the quantities of raw materials needed, determine the right time for supply, and manage inventory.
MRP I uses as input data such as production orders, bills of materials, and delivery dates, ensuring that raw materials are available when needed, avoiding delays or overstocks.
MRP I is also known as “Infinite Capacity Planning” because it does not take into account possible overlaps on certain production lines/machines.

MRP II
Or Manufacturing Resource Planning is an extended version of MRP I that is not limited to materials management. MRP II also integrates other essential resources in the production process, such as labor, equipment, financial costs and production capacity. Unlike MRP I, MRP II offers much more complex planning, being able to manage the entire production operation, including sales forecasting, performance monitoring and budget management.
MRP II takes into account the capacity of resources, including preparation times, equipment maintenance, employee availability, etc. It is known as “Finite Capacity Planning”.
By integrating all these components, becomes a strategic tool for the management of a company’s resources, providing a complete overview of the entire production process and its impact on other departments.
